Paniolo
(pawn-ee-oh-low) started as a one-man band project by Corey Teruya, a 24 year old singer-songwriter/producer currently living in Denver, Colorado. Born in Hawaii, Teruya's parents moved to Boulder, Colorado when he was only a year old. At age 15, he began to mess around on the guitar, and started writing his own songs once he entered college at CU Boulder. He later moved down to Denver and bought some basic recording equipment and began to record some of the songs that he'd written, playing and producing most of the parts and instruments by himself. Eventually, he had about 11 songs recorded in between bartending and going to CU Denver for a Music Business degree. Most of the songs on the demo are Teruya's softer tunes - he didn't want to piss off his neighbors living above and below him by blasting his electric guitars while recording in his apartment studio, so his powerpop/grunge songs will surface on an albumsometime in the near future. In late 2004, Corey took a marketing internship with House of Blues Concerts in Denver, and his demo eventually landed in the hands of Senior Vice President JasonMiller and Talent Buyer Francois Bapstiste, who both said it was "some of the best music they've heard," and are currently helping Corey out with concerts and promotion. He's opened up for national acts such as Tristan Prettyman and The Southland, is in current collaboration with DJHarry, and VP of Delicate Sound Studios in Denver. Now, with a full band behind him, he's preparing to break into the local and national music scene.
